What is a Vampire Facial? How It Works, Benefits and Results

Innovative, modern skincare treatments are revolutionising the way we approach cosmetic procedures. The Vampire Facial® is a procedure that has been shown to have effective results, helping to achieve effects such as reducing scars, tightening skin, smoothing fine lines and more.

What Is The Vampire Facial®? How It Works

The Vampire Facial® combines microneedling and PRP treatment to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance. This procedure gets its unique name from the fact that it uses a patient’s own blood to rejuvenate skin.

  • Microneedling: Microneedling, also known as collagen-induction therapy, is a procedure that involves the use of needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, promoting collagen and elastin production.
  • Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is a medical procedure that involves extracting some of the patient’s blood, processing it, and then injecting the PRP back into targetted tissues. The growth factors in the platelets can promote healing and tissue regeneration. PRP has been used for a variety of treatments, from hair regrowth to encouraging accelerated wound healing.

During a Vampire Facial® treatment, approximately 20 millilitres of blood will be drawn. The blood will then be put into a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets. The resulting solution will then be injected into your skin to stimulate collagen and tissue repair.

What should you know about the Vampire Facial® treatment? Here are a few questions you may have:

  • “Is this treatment safe?” Yes, PRP facials are very safe as long as your treatment is administered by a professional. One reason why PRP treatments are so favoured is because they use natural platelets and growth factors from your own blood. This eliminates the possibility of allergic reactions. PRP can even be used by pregnant and breastfeeding individuals without danger.
  • “How invasive is this treatment?” The Vampire Facial® is a minimally-invasive treatment, only requiring blood to be drawn and then injections after the blood is processed. A topical anesthetic will be used before injections to reduce discomfort, and our staff at Face Doctors always prioritises your comfort and safety.
  • “How many treatments do I need?” Your particular treatment plan will depend on your situation and your desired effects. On average, patients have up to 3 treatments, and treatments should be spaced 4 weeks apart. Before you decide on this procedure, we will have an in-depth consultation where we discuss what you should know, how the procedure will be conducted and whether or not a Vampire Facial® treatment is right for you. We can also discuss other options we have available at Face Doctors.
  • “Are there any side effects?” Side effects include minimal swelling, bruising and redness at injection sites. However, this will gradually reduce and disappear over time.
  • “When will I see results?” You will most likely not see results for the first 2 weeks, and results will become more visible around the 3-week mark. Please note that results on the face generally appear faster than those on the neck.

“How long do results last?” Results tend to last for about one year, within which you may want to have a repeat treatment to refresh your appearance once again.
