Hair loss is a distressing condition for many. Causes vary and are inclusive of genetic predisposition, medical conditions, hormonal problems, smoking, medications and nutritional deficiencies.
In MPHL the male hormone Testosterone is converted to another hormone DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). Increasing levels of DHT slows hair growth, producing weaker shorter hair with potential cessation of Hair Growth entirely. MPHL occurs in 95% of cases of men aged 20 to 45 who lose scalp hair.
Stages Of Male Hair Loss : The Norwood Hamilton Scale 1 (Mild) to 7 (Severe) is used to categorize the extent of male pattern baldness.
Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) may follow the same mechanism as MPHL.
However the hormonal imbalance of Estrogen vs Testosterone, onset of menopause & use of oral contraception adds a level of complexity in resolving hair loss issues in women.
Stages Of Female Hair Loss : The Ludwig Classification Scale 1 (Mild) to 3 (Severe) is used to categorize female pattern baldness.
Higher Norwood or Ludwig Scales offer fewer options, therefore it is important to start treatment as soon as possible.

Mens Medication
Finasteride an oral medication inhibits the conversion of Testosterone to DHT, thereby stimulating Hair Growth. Some adverse effects, sexual dysfunction or mood disorder may occur, therefore a consultation is required.
Womens Medication
Hair follicle regrowth have been seen with the following medications
1) Cyproterone or Ginet, an Oral contraceptive
2) Spironlactone, an Anti-androgen medication to reduce Testosterone
3) HRT to increase Oestrogen.

The use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has long been recognized for its accelerated wound healing properties.
