Treatment
One of the most effective and easiest ways is by having a facial peel. Here at Face Doctors we are able to offer an extensive range of mild, medium and medical grade peels.
A Peel is a non-invasive, exfoliating treatment that relies on fruit acids, herbs and antioxidants to loosen the ‘glue’ that binds the dead cell to the skins surface.
Peels promotes an increase of cell turnover which increases the production of collagen and elastin that then promotes the growth of new skin. Not only do Peels help with acne, anti-ageing, pigmentation and all-over skin appearance, they also make your skin more receptive to products, allowing deeper penetration and more effective absorption, thereby improving your skin.
A full consultation will be given on whether a Peel is suitable for you personally. Cold sores, pregnancy, use of hormones, recent facial surgery or recent use of Retin A or Accutane can prohibit treatment.
Firstly, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and sanitized and then an exfoliating prep will be applied to make doubly sure your skin is prepared for your Peel. Next a Woods-lamp (an ultra violet light) will be place over the treatment area to check it is completely free of residual oils and ready for the application of the product. The product is then applied onto your skin evenly and quickly. Duration and sensation of the treatment depend on the type of peel chosen. Some Peels deliver a mild tingling sensation whilst others are more intense. Your Therapist will explain the likely sensation of the peel being applied to you. Timing is essential and different peels require different amounts of time to penetrate and work on your skin. Generally, the product is left for around 3-5 minutes. Afterward, a calming product will be applied to the area, any relevant serums applied before finishing with a sunblock.
All Peels are different as are most results. Some Peels are designed to slowly slough off your skin over a period of time (maybe up to 5-7 days), others you will not visibly see any skin slough off at all. However, unlike the name suggests, they are not as aggressive or invasive as most people tend to imagine.
There are different strengths and types of peels for different skin conditions. You will be given a complementary consultation on your first visit where your specific skin type and concerns will be analysed before discussing the most appropriate course of action.
Peels are perfect to help oily and acne prone skins. The Peel will ultimately cleanse and rid follicles of accumulated impurities and oils that form acne and at the same time minimize pore size. Peels are also an effective way to help with ongoing problems. The deeper the peel the better the results of dramatically reducing the visible signs of enlarged pores and acne. Your skin will become more balanced and it will help to control the oil and hydration content of your skin, which will ultimately help to control your breakouts and oil issues.
At the time of your consultation, the appropriate number of treatments required will be discussed. You can get a lovely result with one peel if your skin is in moderate-good condition. Usually we recommend a course of 6 to get optimal results. Your skin needs to be allowed a chance to build and strengthen its barrier so we introduce your skin to a mild peel and with each consecutive treatment we introduce a stronger peel so we can get the best results. Your 6th peel is complimentary when paying for a course up front.
Results can be seen and felt immediately but the best results should be in about 5-7 days. We do recommend a course of Peels (spaced 2-4 weeks apart) for the best results which will be discussed at your consultation.
It is always recommended to maximise your results by using effective prescription skincare. Sun exposure should be avoided for 10 days, extreme exercise should be avoided for 24hrs and waxing of the Peeled area should be avoided for 14 days.
The treatment generally takes around 30 minutes. Mostly there is no downtime and you can immediately return to normal daily activities – though there may be a slight redness to the treatment area. More intensive Peels may leave the skin with obvious redness and Clients undertaking these Peels advised to organise a time where you could avoid normal daily activities and return home. Most redness and any swelling will recede within 24 hours. Some of the deeper, stronger peels may produce peeling which can last for up to 5-7 days but is usually minimal and should not interfere with your day to day activities.
