Cheek Fillers vs. Facelifts: What’s the Best Option for a Lifted Look?

Our skin loses elasticity as we age, and you may experience wrinkles, fine lines and sagging. This change can be upsetting, but it doesn’t have to be permanent – there are many options for facial rejuvenation. Cheek fillers, facelifts and other modern solutions provide New Zealand patients with the choice to find the right pathway for them.
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for restoring your facial appearance because we all have different goals and different problem areas. So, it’s always best to understand your options before you pick yours. Perhaps you want a dramatic lift, or you want something more subtle. Either way, when you work with us at Face Doctors, we can find an option that’s tailored to your comfort level, goals and lifestyle.

Cheek Fillers: Dermal Fillers And Immediate Results

The dermal fillers we use are HA (hyaluronic acid) gels, which are injected into the face to restore volume, sculpt cheekbones and lift sagging areas. The HA gels we use are safer than traditional collagen fillers – a key difference between the two being that HA gel fillers are reversible, whereas traditional fillers are permanent or semi-permanent. We only use high-quality products that have been approved by the FDA, TGA and Medsafe.
What should you know?

  • Completely Reversible. This means that if you are unhappy with your results, we can instantly reverse your dermal fillers with no permanent side effects.
  • Lasting Results. Cheek filler results last around 9-18 months, depending on the filler type.
  • Entirely Natural. Hyaluronic acid is natural; it binds and absorbs water to create volume in the body. So, if you’re a patient who’s worried about injecting artificial substances into your face, you can rest easy.

Another option for facial rejuvenation we have at Face Doctors is Profhilo®, an injectable treatment that also uses hyaluronic acid. This procedure differs from standard dermal fillers in that it doesn’t add volume. Instead, it hydrates, firms and stimulates collagen and elastin production to improve skin texture and tightness. This non-invasive treatment has minimal downtime and natural-looking results.

Profhilo®, containing low & high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, is a Class lll medical device for the treatment of the face and body for contours, redefinition and laxity remodelling where skin laxity is a problem. Profhilo® has risks and benefits. Do not use with treatments such as laser resurfacing or medium deep skin-peeling. Do not inject into inflamed areas or intravenously or intramuscularly. Possible side effects: pain and swelling at injection site. Individual results may vary. This medical device must be administered by a healthcare professional.

Facelifts: Surgical Facial Revitalisation

surgical facelift lifts and repositions the skin and deeper muscle layers to reverse advanced signs of ageing. Facelift procedures can be combined with other treatments to target specific areas, and there are various kinds of facelifts because each case can vary significantly.
What should you know?

  • Individualised Procedures. For younger individuals, a mini facelift may be the best solution. Your surgeon will work with you to pinpoint the right treatment for you.
  • Moderate Downtime And Some In-Hospital Stay. Your face is a sensitive area, so proper aftercare is absolutely necessary. Most patients stay in the clinic for one to two days afterwards. Once you leave, you should avoid strenuous activity, facial massages and sudden head/facial movement for a few weeks before you return to your everyday life.
  • Longer Results. Because surgical facelifts are more invasive procedures than HA cheek fillers, results last much longer and can last for years.

Are there any non-surgical facelift treatments? The Vampire Facelift® is a less invasive alternative that uses HA fillers and Platelet-Rich Plasma derived from your own blood. The HA filler is used to sculpt and shape, and the PRP is injected to activate regeneration, restoring a youthful shape and skin quality. These results last anywhere from 9 months to 2 years.

Vampire Facelift® treatments don’t last as long as traditional surgical facelifts, but they provide excellent results and are much less invasive.

Cheek Fillers Or Facelifts: Which Lift Is Right For You?

Each treatment has different benefits, and the right choice for you will strongly depend on your aesthetic goals, age, skin condition, comfort level and recovery comfort level. We welcome you to speak to us so we can discuss your options with you, working through your potential pathways until we discover what works best for you.

  • If you want instant volume in your cheeks using a safe, naturally-derived filler, then consider dermal fillers.
  • If you want to refresh your skin and don’t need added volume, then pick Profhilo®.
  • If you want a regenerative boost with no surgery needed, consider a Vampire Facelift®.
  • If you want a major change with long-lasting results, choose a surgical facelift procedure.
