the procedure
The Priapus Shot® begins by withdrawing blood.
The growth factors of the platelet-rich plasma are extracted from the blood sample, and re-injected into specific penile sites. These areas are numbed by a local anaesthetic cream before injection. Treatment is often pain free

How the Priapus Shot® Works
The natural serum that produces the effects of the Priapus Shot® is known as the platelet rich fibrin matrix or PRFM. The treatment takes about 15 minutes to perform using a fine needle ( topical anaesthetic reduces discomfort ).
There have been no serious long term effects found with PRP when administered appropriately with an FDA approved kit. A recent retrospective study in the Investigative Clinical Urology, Ethan 2018, concluded that PRFM injections for Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and Peyronie’s Disease (PD) are feasible and safe (1)

Length of procedure
We allow about 60-75 minutes, this for a full consultation and examination and the procedure itself.

Adverse effects
The most common side effects include, temporary skin reactions such as redness, pain, tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps or bruising. On occasion there is a transient loss of erectile ability. Platelet function is inhibited by the following therefore
DO NOT SMOKE Do not use illegal drugs, avoid excess alcohol. Do not take salicylic acid (Aspirin) and Anti-inflammatory drugs such as Nurofen® and Voltaren® for two weeks before and six weeks after treatment. If you supplement with omega 3 fatty acids (fish, krill or flax seed oil), stop these during the same period. Simple Paracetamol for any residual discomfort.
It is recommended that a Penis Pump be purchased and used. In keeping with TAPS Approval 10287 (Therapeutic Advertising Pre-vetting Service) Treatment outcomes are exempt from being advertised. Please refer to P Shot® Data Information supplied for evidence based studies of P Shot® Post Treatment Advice and Outcomes. Pump protocol: 10 minutes at a pressure of 10 mmHg immediately after the shot. Then 10 to 15 minutes twice a day every day for at least 6 weeks. These two sessions can be back to back separated by a 5 minute rest. You are encouraged to return to usual sexual activity immediately after treatment. |

Patient Satisfaction Rates.
A retrospective study of 1220 patients by Kumar CS; “Combined Treatment of Injecting Platelet Rich Plasma With Vacuum Pump For Penile Enlargement”; J Sex Med 2016, 11, 174, concluded that penile length and girth enhancement using PRP and Vacuum Device for patients suffering from small penis, severe ED, significant shortening with or without Peyronies disease is a safe cheap effective procedure that can be performed in an outpatient department. With erection satisfaction rates of (see study for satisfaction rates) reported (3). Important variables such as patient medical history, presence chronic illness, medications-anti platelet therapy, lifestyle-smoking, type of PRP kits, harvesting technique, quality of PRP, doctor skill and patient expectations are contributing factors towards patient satisfaction and dissatisfaction rates (2a).

In New Zealand there are more than 1 in 3 men who suffer from erectile dysfunction in their lifetime (4,5) the majority of whom present with mild-to-moderate erectile symptoms, which worsen with age (4). We recommend that any complicated cases that have not previously been investigated be referred to the appropriate clinicians such as an urologist before proceeding with any treatment.
