What is Microdermabrasion?

How does Microdermabrasion help?
Microdermabrasion targets a number of skin conditions including pigmentation, acne and uneven skin tone, it also helps to cleanse and detoxify the skin.  When cells form deep below the surface of your skin they are full of moisture.  But as they slowly work their way to the surface they lose moisture, work less efficiently, lose their elasticity and flatten out.  As they flatten out they can glue together and this makes your skin surface look dull and cause your pores to clog as oil and bacteria gets trapped. The dead cells also sit in fine lines and wrinkles thus making them worse and more obvious. This in turn affects the general health and appearance of your skin.  With a layer of dead skin on the surface of your skin products applied are unable to penetrate to where they are needed. 

Can any one get Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is completely non-abrasive so is suitable and highly recommended for most skin types from aged skin, pigmented skin, acne skin, dry skin, oily skin, normal skin and more.  Most skin type will get positive results from this procedure, even well balanced normal skin gets amazing results as the removal of the dead layer of skin is beneficial to all.  It is not recommended if you are taking certain acne medication, are taking blood thinners or are pregnant.

What parts of the body can be treated?
The most popular body areas to be treated are those most frequently exposed, face, neck, décolleté (chest), and hands, however, arms, back and legs can also be treated.

How many treatments will I need?
A full consultation will be given at your first appointment and you will be advised on how many treatments you may expect to need. Most skins will benefit from even just one treatment but generally to obtain optimum results we recommend a course; or as a part of your permanent beauty regime 1 every month.

Is there any down time involved?
No.  You may have a slight pinkness or at the most redness to your skin but you will be able to resume your normal day-to-day activities immediately.

Can Microdermabrasion help with oily acne prone skin?

Can Microdermabrasion help with sensitive or rosacea?
Some.  Sensitive skins and skin with just a few broken capillaries can have this procedure but obviously this would be performed at the most gentle setting.  Generally people with substantial rosacea are recommended to look to a different procedure eg: peel, facial, photorejuvenation.

What does Microdermabrasion feel like? Does Microdermabrasion hurt?
There is no pain involved.  Most people just feel a gentle to medium pressure along the surface of their face while at the same time a gentle vacuum like sucking feeling as the dead skin cells are removed.

What are the side-effects of Microdermabrasion?
No there are no side effects.  Your face will look a little redder then usual either just marginally or at worst like light sunburn.  Your skin colour should return to normal with in a couple of hours.   You will need to be extra carefull to ensure you wear sunblock for the following 2 weeks.
